The Pacific - Day 10

We started our Sunday in our normal fashion.... we went to Mass. It was a nice church called St. Henry's. The deacon gave a nice homily on the fishes and loaves. However, the music was a bit slow. Of course this was the 8:00 first mass and the music usually is a little slower at earlier Masses.

After that we got breakfast and planned our day (Wireless at a PIT stop). Debbie told the girls the plan. After breakfast, we'll do a little and the come back for more tea, then we'll do a little more and come back for more tea and then .... We all groaned (and smiled- but only on the inside.)

We drove around downtown Portland and headed north. Maria learned about Long Beach in school, so that's where she wanted to go. On the way north, we think we got glimpses of Mt. St. Helen's, maybe Mt. Adams and Mt. Ranier. However, non of our pictures really show them.

Finally, we got to Long Beach.

We drove out towarded the beach, but not on it. A couple cars got stuck in the sand, so we were glad we didn't. The girls just wanted to dip there toes in the water. Debbie dipped her toes, but the girls got wet! Actually, it wasn't too bad, but Sarah did get pretty wet!

The clouds were over the ocean like what is supposed to be a typical Seattle day. (But we haven't seen that kind of weather.) The sun peaked thru a little and warmed us a little on the otherwise brisk beach!

As we were leaving, two women rode up on horseback. So, Bob took Sarah over and she got to pet them on the nose. They were a beautiful pair of animals.

After the beach, we had lunch in a little shop on the main street and then ice cream afterwards. It was pleasant family time.

Then we headed out towards Chehalis. On the way, we could see Ranier in the distance, and sometimes, we thought we could make out St. Helens, but we weren't sure.

We checked in, and while Mom washed some Pacific drenched clothes, Bob and girls went swimming.

There is a train line that runs thru Chehalis. It is the line that carries the Amtrak from Seattle to San Francisco. We didn't see the Amtrak, but we have had several trains go by, much to Bob's delight.
